The Many Benefits of Breathwork
If you have never experienced breathwork before, you are in for a treat. If you have, you probably know how profound it can be, and might even be surprised to learn about all the benefits it offers.
It’s almost hard to wrap your head around the concept of using the breath, something we all have access to since birth, to heal your mind, body, and spirit. You will never forget your first breathwork experience, and while it might not be exactly what you expected, you’ll leave wanting more.
What to expect during your breathwork session
Breathwork can be done in a variety of ways. You can find audio guidance and do breathwork on your own, at home, probably lying in your bed or on the floor, you can work with a breathwork practitioner either in-person or online, and you can do breathwork in a group of people either in-person or online.
Every practitioner has a different style, but you can expect to be guided the whole way through. They will explain the different breathing patterns, and encourage you to keep going even if it starts to feel uncomfortable. You might experience tension in your muscles, dizziness, tingling, tears, and a lot of emotions coming up, and that’s all good. That means that you’re processing what you need to be processing. Expect the unexpected and also know that you are safe and supported through the whole experience.
Benefit 1: Easing Your Mind
An almost immediate benefit you’ll feel is stress release. This is also one of the most common reasons that people seek out breathwork. Stress, anxiety, and depression are plaguing our society right now, and breathwork can help treat all of them with no medication necessary.
Breathwork is also a great tool to help you work through past traumas that have been causing fear, tension and dis-ease in your system. If you’re doing any type of inner healing, chances are that some type of trauma is going to be revealed. It’s part of the human experience, and breathwork is one of the best tools out there to help you process and release that fear and trauma.
If you are stressed or have fear of certain people or situations, breathwork can help you work through those as well. Imagine how free you will feel once you can release all of those burdens!
Benefit 2: Heal Your Physical Body
The physical benefits of breathwork are undeniable and quite impressive. Breathwork actually stimulates the lymphatic system and detoxifies the body. It also increases your energy levels because you are getting more oxygen into your system.
Do you have digestion issues? Breathwork uses diaphragmatic breathing which creates a gentle massage on your internal organs, intestines, and stomach. Abdominal pain, bloating, and constipation can all be alleviated with breathwork.
Mental health issues like anxiety and depression have a direct effect on your physical self, and people suffering from those issues often times have chronic pain as well. Things like neck pain and back pain have all been linked to emotional issues and can be alleviated by incorporating breathwork into your healing regimen.
Benefit 3: Connection with Your Spirit
Don’t be surprised if during your session you transcend to another place. Breathwork has this amazing ability to connect you with a dimension that’s entirely different than the one here on earth. It might sound a little strange, but it’s actually quite wonderful.
People have been known to feel like they are levitating or having a psychedelic experience, just without the drugs. It’s not scary because you’re always in control, but the messages, memories, or lessons that come to you during your sessions can be life-changing.
